LITTLE SAIGON

Little Saigon is the name given to the Vietnamese immigrant communities abroad and their descendants outside Vietnam, usually in the United States. Saigon is the old name of the former capital of South Vietnam, from where a large number of first generation Vietnamese immigrants. Relatively little direct immigration to the United States from northern Vietnam, although nearly one million North Vietnamese moved south when the country was divided in 1954 and many of these people later migrated north from southern Vietnam to the United States. Lack of immigration is partly due to the fact that the United States has refused to accept refugees from North Vietnam. (In the mid-1990s, relations between the U.S. and Vietnam improved under President Bill Clinton, even though many of the anti-communist leaders of Vietnam-many of them were veterans of the War ARVN Vietnam-in a number of Little Saigon community still strongly opposes the U.S. formal diplomatic relations with Vietnam.). Now, the Vietnamese immigrants who are relatively new arrivals from various regions throughout Vietnam.
At the end of the Vietnam War, Vietnamese refugees settled in refugee camps in Camp Pendleton, California, Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. They deliberately spread because of the fear on the part of the resettlement program compilers in the U.S. that Vietnamese people newly arrived will be grouped in "ghettos".

Little Saigon's most established and largest is located in Orange County, California, Houston, Texas, and San José, California, although the Vietnamese enclave-American enclave smaller even have emerged, including the districts of Vietnam's view is relatively new in San Francisco, San Diego, and Sacramento, California and in Orlando, Florida. In addition, the Vietnamese Sino American have built their efforts and bring the elements most typical of Vietnam in Chinatown, so there mixing line between a "Chinatown" and "Little Saigon"; few examples is the Chinatown in Las Vegas, Boston, Massachusetts, Houston, Texas (Bellaire Chinatown) or Honolulu, Hawaii.
